Yarra Valley Brewers Club

On Monday night I attended my first ever meeting of the Yarra Valley Brewers Club. The formalities were soon over – a discussion about a beer trip to the Beechworth Brewery in October, the Taphouse in St Kilda and the Brew Wizard brand possibly going out of business – and then it was onto the tasting.

There were 9 of us in total and eight beers to taste. I’d forgotten my brew on the kitchen table in my rush to get to the meeting. Some of them tasted pretty plain, some were really good. The best brew of the night (in my humble opinion) was a Bock that had been brewed over two years ago! It was beautifully smooth with hints of malt and chocolate.

Another brew of interest was a smokey dark ale brewed with smoked malt. It was quite a strong smokey flavour which some of the others really enjoyed, but it wasn’t to my liking. There was also an excellent lager and a banana flavoured Dunkekl Weizen which was very good.

The next meeting is in a month’s time and hopefully my current brew will be ready by then.

I went to dinner club and ‘forgot my wallet’.

Works like a dream, that one, doesn’t it? 🙂

@6000: I only have one homebrew at the moment and it’s a boring lager anyway so I didn’t mind forgetting it at home.
