The Final Move

Yes, we are moving again. Twice!

We will soon be putting our house on the market (next week, if you’re looking for a new place in Melbourne to live). At this stage, it looks like we will be building a new place, but we haven’t signed the paperwork yet so I won’t say too much about that. The process will take 6 to 9 months before the house will be available to move into.

In the meantime, we will be moving in with the in-laws again. Not really a problem for easy-going me, but as they are Deb’s parents, expect the occasional fireworks between them! Plus my father-in-law loves (and shares) his red wine collection!

The idea is that we are building our ideal home and that this will be our last move ever (except maybe into a retirement village in the distant future) and this got me thinking… how many different homes/places have I lived in my lifetime? So I started counting.

Thirty five different homes! This is broken down into 19 different towns/cities in 6 countries. It doesn’t include the 9 places that I ‘dossed’*,the 4 hostels I ‘lived’ in while job/home hunting and the 1 beach that I slept on for 2 weeks in Israel.

I can’t even begin to count the number of backpackers where I have laid my head during my time traveling (but I may try and then get back to you in another post!)

Some of the best places I have lived: Covent Garden opposite the Opera House, Notting Hill (on Portobello Market), Primrose Hill (on the park), Walton-on-Thames (on the river’s edge!), Bath (in the city centre), Kamari Beach (Santorini), a yacht in Eilat, George (where I grew up!).

* To doss – To sleep rough, usually on somebody’s couch or floor.

    Those are some pretty impressive stats, Cuz. You lived at Kamari Beach in Santorini? Why, oh why, did you ever leave…?!! {sighs in envy}

    I have also lived in 6 different countries but I don’t think as many places. I should also maybe sit down and think about it. Hmm, if I do I’ll get back to you.
