NaNoWriMo

Today I signed up for my first ever NaNoWriMo. That’s National Novel Writing Month for those of you who don’t know. I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to hit the 50,000 word mark or come anywhere near writing a novel, but I guess it’s a way to motivate myself.

Of course it’s not as simple as just sitting down and writing! There’s plots, locations, characters and a whole host of other things to worry about but that’s probably what stops people from just writing.

Anyway, I’ll keep you up to date as to how I’m going… if I even get started! For anyone else planning on doing WriMo, have a look at some of the tips on this website:

Hey, good luck with your first year of Wrimo! It’s addictive, so if you don’t do fantastically well this year, you’re bound to try again next year. Just remember this all-important tip: it does not have to be amazing. It doesn’t really have to make sense. Just get it done. In my sixth year now, I’ve only had one real “success” – the first four years were practice runs!

I kind of like the bit about it not having to make sense. That’s what rewrites are for, right?

And that’s what December is for; rewrites!
