For those of you living in a shoebox somewhere, yesterday was another tragic day in Christchurch, New Zealand. An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 hit the city around 1pm, followed by a number of aftershocks of between 4 and 5 magnitude. Seventy something lives were lost and there are still a huge number of people missing. If you want to follow the latest, click on Google Realtime.
But that’s not what this post is about. This post is to help people help those in New Zealand. So here are some links:
Person finder – Google has set this up to help people find missing persons or let people know that they are OK.
Red Cross NZ – Donate via the Red Cross website from anywhere in the world. This site is extremely busy and you may have trouble connecting. If you are having trouble with the site, you can donate via the Red Cross Australia website too.

Vodafone NZ – If you have a Vodafone mobile and live in NZ, you can Text “QUAKE” to 555 to donate $5 or “QUAKE” to 333 to donate $3.
Donations can be made via any BNZ store or internet banking to: BNZ Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal Account 02-0500-0982004-000.
If you live in Wellington and would like to donate, there is a drop off point at 44 Wigan Street, Wellington City. The truck leaves at 5pm on Thursday. Batteries, torches, toilet paper, deoderant, soap, sheets, pillow cases, food, new buckets. Pretty much anything.
