F-bomb!

Five weeks from his fourth birthday, my son has come out with his first ‘major’ swear word. You know what little boys are like. Words like “Poo-poo” and “poo-head” are used quite often (picked up at school I would imagine) for which he gets threatened with pepper in the mouth. And trust me, he’s tasted pepper a few times and he doesn’t like it.

He’s also a huge Ben 10 fan. For those of you that don’t know, Ben 10 is a cartoon kid who has this special watch called an Omnitrix. When he is in danger or needs to help somebody, he shouts “Hero time!”, picks an alien form on the Omnitrix, slaps the watch and turns into an alien. There are different alien forms, each with their own special powers. However, 7 out of 10 times Ben ends up turning into something that he hasn’t selected.

So, getting back to the point, Josh was playing Ben 10 with Isi the other morning before school (Isi gets to be Gwen, Ben’s cousin). The were fighting ‘baddies’ and Josh had his plastic Omnitrix on (see pic). All this time I was having breakfast. I heard them shouting at their attackers and then the next thing I know, Josh is shouting “It’s hero time!”. He slapped the watch and then, after about 2 seconds, I hear him mumble “This fucken watch.”

Well, I was torn between being a good, fair dad or pissing myself laughing. I gave him a stern look and told him never to say that ugly word again!

I haven’t heard him repeat the word again…

    Be honest, when was the first time you used that word???? And then never used it in front of your parents again? (Untill you were old enough that is!)

    Aaaahahahaha. That is so funny! I’m not good around kids. I barely swear but I can just imagine little ones parodying my “eff eff ess” and double-u-tee-eff”. I totally swear in netspeak.

    What I like much more about your story is that your kids are actually playing, using their imagination and not just watching Ben10 (never heard of that before) on TV. As for the F word – I guess dad has a point. 🙂

    @Dad: I wouldn’t remember…
    @Emm: He’s too clever. Even though he wouldn’t understand net speak, he still pick it up!
    @mau: Our kids don’t watch much TV. Mainly in the morning while they have their breakfast and I’m getting ready for work.

    LOL! I don’t know how you didn’t laugh but yep, absolutely the right thing to do. The more fuss is made over it, the more it’ll be repeated. (but OMG that’s priceless 🙂 )
