New Forest Experience

No, not a herbal tea incident, but a week’s camping in the New Forest, Hampshire with a seven year old – my son, Nicholas!

Actually, it was great! I relaxed, I read 2 novels (Angels and Demons by Dan Brown and Firewall by Andy McNab), I relaxed, rode my bike, I relaxed, I caught some sun, I relaxed, I went to the beach and I relaxed! Quite a busy week!

I needed the break too, Carnival was MAD!! The busiest Notting Hill I’ve ever worked! People everywhere, sun shining, music blaring – what an atmosphere! And the day after… total chill!

It was like being at home (I grew up in George, in the Garden Route) with tall trees surrounding you, wild ponies and donkeys strolling along the pathways, wild rabbits hopping through the heather and the deer bolting across the tracks as you cycled through the forest.

We camped at Red Shoot in the ‘village’ of Linwood which was basically a campsite, a farm and a pub! By the time we left on Saturday, the campsite was absolutely packed with kids enjoying their last weekend of summer holidays! We were actually quite pleased to be leaving!

The cycling was nice and easy too. I even managed to drag Nic and Deb out for TWO short rides with me! I’ll definitely have to take Brad down there for a ride sometime so that we can go do some real ‘macho’ riding! Just kidding!

Chat soon,
Del

    Sounds great, Del!
So did you at least get to relax at all…?

Sounds like you had a good weekend. I’m not much of a cyclist, but I understand that it is a great way to relax and enjoy nature.
