Feb was a busy month for me as caching goes. I managed 25 geocaches in the month – my busiest ever (not that I’m a numbers man!)

I was also lucky enough to do some travel caches – in Perth and Fremantle, Western Australia. I managed to grab 5 caches in the 4 days that we were in town. One whole day was lost to a wedding and another to travel and the heat (42°C!)

In the early part of the month I also took a bike ride from Croydon to Blackburn north and grabbed a few caches along the Mullum Mullum Creek and the Koonung Creek cycle trails.

I attended a lunch event and made some new friends too at the “Another Bung Lunch” event.

My favourite find of the month was “Wetlands Walk” which I did with my 3½ year old son. My favourite hide was “Mont Court Reserve“, a very stealthy hide in a kids’ playground.

November wasn’t a bad caching month for me. I managed to grab 10 caches and attend an event – the WWFM VI!

The WWFM was fun as per usual. 54 teams attended this one which just happened to fall on the same day as the Myer Christmas Parade. Luckily our massive event didn’t interfere too much with theirs although I’m sure more than a few muggles grabbed log sheets without realising what we were up to!

After the event, I headed into the city on my bike to grab some caches that had been placed since my last visit to the CBD. This included an interesting Earthcache! I also cycled out to the Rod Laver Tennis Centre to grab a few caches out that way. I also managed to log 5 different types of cache today! Event, traditional, multi, earthcache and locationless.

On the last weekend of the month I went caching while the family were out Christmas shopping. I have made a short iPhone video of this expedition (to follow shortly).

I have been so busy over the past few weeks that I haven’t been out caching much. I did some caching on Father’s Day, finding only one cache as the other one we went looking for had been muggled! I have, however, still been playing the Veni, Vidi, Vici game over at cachinggames.com and (at this instant) am joint first, completing 14 out of the 17 challenges.

Hopefully with the weather improving I will get out and cache some more over the coming weeks…

After a crash with my mountain bike in January, I haven’t been doing much caching. But that all changed this week – I got my ‘new’ GPS back and discovered some fantastic software that I can use on my Nokia 6110 for cache-hunting!

My new Garmin works much better than the old one. It picks up signal a lot quicker and much better than the old one.

As for my Nokia, I have installed Trimble’s fantastic GeoCache Navigator. It means that I can cache whenever and wherever I want as long as I have signal on my phone. It’s fast and easy to use and as a Sales Manager, I travel quite a bit around the city so I cache whenever I get the chance.

If you have a Nokia phone, the software is free to download and use.

Towards the end of summer 2006, I decided to buy myself a Garmin Edge 205 ; a GPS.

This GPS is bike specific i.e. it is made for mountain-biking. It fits on your handlebars and records where you are going or tells you where to go. All very handy when you are out in the bush riding.

Then came the winter. And the wet weather. And the thick mud. And the mountain-biking stopped. So what could I use my expensive gadget for now. Geocaching!

Geocaching is a sport where basically people hide a ‘treasure’, put the co-ordinates on the web and then you try to find it. The treasure could be anything from a test tube containing a logbook to a big box full of stuff. In this case, you generally take something, sign the logbook and then leave something else.

Check out the website for more info.
