[Trying to get crayon off your LCD or Plasma TV? Read on*]

My heart nearly stopped last night: I could have killed Josh!

I was washing the dishes while Deb was feeding and changing baby Isabel. Josh was watching TV up close to the screen, as little kids do. I wasn’t really paying attention to what he was doing but told him to move away from the screen. He came running over to where I was standing and commenced graffiti-ing the kitchen cupboard with the blue crayon that he had in his hand.

Obviously I didn’t take too kindly to this. I grabbed the crayon out of his hand and gave him an earful. Luckily I had the dishwashing cloth in my hand, so I dipped it in the hot, soapy water and rubbed the blue scrawl off.

I looked up to see where he had disappeared to. There he stood, in the middle of the lounge, looking very guilty.

“Sit on the couch and watch some TV” I growled.

Being the good father that I am, I thought that I’d better check what was on the television first. Looking up at it, I immediately realized what he had been doing before he graffiti-ed the kitchen – he’d Picasso-ed the TV. My new TV. My beautiful new 40 inch Sony LCD. With blue crayon lines all over the screen.

I just stood there. I was stunned! Speechless! What could I say to the kid!

I quickly ran over with the aforementioned cloth and commenced rubbing the screen. Nope, not a good idea. The screen didn’t like being rubbed. Again, I just stood there. Deb appeared and asked what was wrong. I pointed to the screen. It was enough.

Josh just stood there saying “TV… TV”

This morning the screen still has blue crayon all over it. But not as visible with the TV turned off.

I Googled the problem last night, only to discover that I wasn’t the only parent with this problem. Everything from plasma screens to iMacs, projector screens to laptops have been colourfully decorated by budding Monets around the world with everything from crayons to ball-point pens.

The even better news is that Crayola.com, makers of the offending weapon, have a section on how to deal with various stains. So, to remove crayon from your LCD screen/ Plasma screen/ laptop, use good old WD40. Spray it on a cloth, gently rub off the crayon (with the TV off), then wipe down with a clean, damp cloth to remove any residue. Voila!

[* I've been getting loads of Google hits to this page. I assume that many people have the same trouble as me!]

Kids, hey?

Who'd go and have another one? <img src=hock:' />

Thanks for the helpful advice. I have cleaned crayola off everything but the TV so far.

But no pictures - that would have been fun! :P
