Birthday parties

Last weekend was a “birthday weekend”. All weekend was spent celebrating. Saturday, after Josh’s swimming lesson, we went off to his cousin’s birthday party at one of those play centers where the kids run wild. Two and a half hours of screaming toddlers, pumped full of birthday cake, sausage rolls and party pies all washed down with red cordial was more than enough for me!

We decided to follow the birthday girl home to her dad’s place. We watched the highlights of the previous day’s Super 14 rugby with our own party pies, sausage rolls and bottles of beer. We then watched the AFL (Aussie Rules Football) interspersed with bits of another live Super 14 game.

By 8pm and about 20 cans of bourbon, beer and whiskey (the Aussies drink all their drinks pre-mixed in cans – Jack Daniels & Cola, Jim Beam & Cola, Black Douglas & Cola… even Bundy & Cola!), we started to get the munchies again. Out came the pizza take-away menu. I vaguely remember getting driven home around midnight. I’m so glad Deb is breast-feeding!

Sunday's session was a lot calmer. Lunch at a 5 Star hotel generally pans out that way. I only had one beer with lunch before heading home to watch the cricket from the comfort/safety of my own couch.

PS: Go The Sharks!!

Gotta love those parties.

The best bit is about 3 hours later when the sugar rush ends and the reality of exactly how much energy has been expended hits home.

(The kids, I mean...)
