We finally did it... Deb & I tied the knot on 08/08/08.
We have been planning a beach wedding in South Africa since getting engaged last year in Canada (on 07/07/07 no less!) but soon discovered that the legalities of tying the knot in South Africa may later cause us some issues in Australia. So we decided to do all the legal stuff in Aus. The original plan was to marry on 25 April 09 in Melbourne (7 years to the day since we met), but that day is a public holiday in Australia, so that was not going to happen. So we fished around for another date and eventually decided on 080808. We quickly had to book a celebrant, a venue, buy wedding rings and apply for a marriage license as we only had a month to go! Eeeeeeeeeasy! We kept it a secret from everyone (there may be a few of you out there who still don't know) and on Friday 8 August, we headed to a restaurant in Prahran called Red Orange. The service lasted about 20 minutes after which we sat down with close family for a fantastic lunch - oysters for starter, lamb for main course & mudcake for dessert. From here, Deb & I headed to the city and checked in to our hotel - the Medina Grande - where we were staying in the penthouse suite (thanks Alex!). We had an afternoon nap in preparation for a BIG night out. We met up with some close friends at Pugg Mahones in Hardware Lane for a few drinks before heading to Vons Restaurant a little further down Hardware Lane. Pugg's was fun with a really good atmosphere, Vons was not so great. The food was good, the service was OK, but the atmosphere was non-existant. Thank goodness for the great company! By 11pm we were seriously ready to party. We walked around the corner to "Club Retro" on Lonsdale Street. Anyone that was born or grew up in the 80's would love this place! We started with a few drinks before hitting the dancefloor in embarrasing fashion. The joys of being in a big group! We eventually crawled back to our hotel room around 3.30pm with a compulsary stop at the 24 hour corner shop for microwaveable subs and banana flavoured milk. A big thanks to all who attended and also to all those who wanted to attend but couldn't make it (Kim, Andrew, Matt, Woodsy). Thanks also to those who sent us their well wishes from around the world!
