Long weekend
Written by Delwynne

This weekend just passed was another long weekend. Friday was ANZAC Day, so we all got the day off.

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. Dawn services are held all around the country in memory of lives lost by Australian soldiers in various wars - WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf Wars and Afghanistan.

ANZAC Day is also a big day on the Aussie Rules Football calendar. I went to the game - Essendon (my team) vs Collingwood. It was a waste of $30! Not only was the carvery lunch very disappointing, but my team got their butts whipped too. I was so embarrassed that I left at three-quarter time. Reading my book on the train was more appealing than watching the s#!t that was taking place on the field!

Saturday was Joshua's secong birthday. It was meant to be held at the park near Lilydale Lake, but Melbourne weather being what it is, we had to move it to our place. It wasn't too bad. The six or so kids still played outside, while the big kids sat around inside eating and drinking beer. And the women drank coffee and made more food.

Needless to say, our house now looks like the Island of Sodor. Those of you with kids will know that this means loads of trains everywhere. Not  to mention the Thomas clothes, Thomas bedding, Thomas gumboots, Thomas gloves, hat and scarf. Oh, actually, the gloves, hat and scarf are Bob the Builder clobber.

Once the little kids went home, the bigger kids settled down to watch more football (Aussie Rules) and drink more beer. All washed down with pizza and garlic bread.

Sunday was a day of recovery. We spent the morning geocaching in the area before the rain came. After dinner it was CSI in bed for me and Grey's on the couch for Deb.

Photos of Joshua's birthday will follow.
